Hello! Within this post, I am giving my thoughts on trends in interior design that I currently love. . . and a few that I could leave behind. My personal style is a mix of Farmhouse, Boho and French Country. These are my tried and true things I live by to achieve this unique style.

Bohemian/Persian rugs-
Rugs are a great way to introduce color and pattern into any room. Bohemian rugs will warm up an area with unique patterns and deep, bright colors. A large area rug could be the perfect finishing touch on a living room while a bohemian style runner in your entry way could define your style right when entering your home.
I personally own this rug. (*not the rug pictured below*) The colors are true to the image, the size is perfect, and after a year this rug is still top notch. The only thing that has been wrong with it is one corner rolls up. I suspect that is user error rather than something is wrong the rug. Aka, I need to learn how to walk. Check it out!
Mixing eclectic patterns/textures -
Along with your Bohemian rug, do not be afraid to mix and match patterns! A bold rug can go exist with other bold upholstery or even tile (such as a back slash or bathroom floor!) In this picture, the rug and back splash add an awesome energy to this kitchen!
Natural green paints-
Natural tone palettes, particularly greens, are all the rage right now. My favorite for paint this year is a calm, sage color. This paint gives a subtle pop of color that will look great in natural light.
Antique doors-
I am an avid promoter of restoring and reusing. Antique doors can give a boost to the character of a room or turn something ordinary (such as a pantry) into an eye catching design focal point.
Inspirational spaces-
A design tip that I live by is to create spaces that you feel inspired in. Whatever that means to you, make it happen!
Handmade ceramics-
I am a fan of the imperfect. Handmade products can give a personal touch to your kitchen, dining or living room. Clean cut is out, imperfection is in!
These Hearth and Hand plates by Magnolia are to die for. They are my show stopper!
Creative Breakfast nooks-
There is a fade in formal dining rooms and breakfast nooks are taking the spot light! Have fun with this area and create a space that is functional and fun!
Flora-
Natural is in. Load up on potted plants and floral inspired patterns! Plants are good for the air and even faux accents bring life to a room for those who lack a green thumb! This eucalyptus garland is my favorite.
As a garden mama, I own over 20 indoor plants. They are great for design but can also be fun to take care of. The Golden Devil's Ivy is my all time favorite plant. It is easy to grow and beautiful!
Patterned floors-
Patterned floors are making a HUGE comeback! Black and white hexagonal variations are my go to. Goodbye plain Jane flooring, hello unique!
Arches doorways and Ceiling details-
Arched doors and ceiling details create character. Wood beams bring a natural, structured touch to any room.
Trends that I am not loving:
Okay, well this section is mostly things I have a love-hate relationship with the addition of a few trends that I am not loving.
Mid Mod- Mid Modern is one of my least favorite styles. Now I do not mind accents in this style but I would not mind if this trend slowly slipped away and was forgotten.
Shifting to colorful kitchens- I am a white kitchen girl through and through. White kitchens are timeless and airy. Colorful kitchens are something that have come and gone out of style. Instead of going full color blast in your kitchen, I recommend using colorful accents. (such as a bohemian rug!) A rug or bright appliances can give that fun pop of color you are looking for without over committing to a style that you might fall out of love with as the trends change.
Bold Colors- The same philosophy applies for bold colors in any room for me. Accents are everything and are interchangeable! A room full of bold colors can be overpowering rather than harmonious.
Curved furniture- There is nothing inherently wrong with curved furniture, but it is just not my cup of tea. I am a fan of a more clean cut, traditional look.
No Uppers- No upper kitchen cabinets is a trend that I am sitting on the fence about. If a kitchen allows for enough storage elsewhere, go ahead and opt for windows over your counters instead. I would not, however, recommend giving up storage space for this style. Storage space is too precious!
Mix Matching patterns- No, not a typo. Mix matching patterns can be overpowering, so here I am going to insert what I said about bold colors... Accents are everything and are interchangeable! A room full of bold patterns can be overpowering rather than harmonious. Go for a fun, pattern filled eclectic style but just remember to not go overboard and have too many competing elements in the room.
Okay! Quick overview - Keep design simple and timeless, focus less on trends and more on design that can evolve as you do. Create spaces that represent who you are and that inspire you.
